A fact that rings true about woodlands is that no season is the same as the last and each brings a different feel and appearance to the landscape. For me my two favorite periods are Autumn and Winter, Autumn brings a riot of colour and sound and then Winter brings snow. When snow arrives it completely alters the feel once again with forests becoming very still, quiet places as much of the wildlife goes to ground staying warm and only coming out when in need of food. In away its a little eerie because you some how you get used to meeting other people walking the many pathways that meander throughout the woodland but snow keeps most people in doors so it's quiet an experience to have the whole place to yourself.
So taking the opportunity presented by the resent cold snap it was out into the cold with my camera, I thought it'd be good to show the area in its winter coating capturing the beauty that can be found in even the harshest weather.

The above photo is what I mean when I talk about the area feeling eerily empty, you get the image that this is an area used by people with the picnic benches being present but it's very clear that for a time no one has been anywhere near them.

I like the above view because in contrast to the picnic bench scene here you can see that people have been present even in these harsh conditions from the trail of footprints leading off into the distance.

Overall with these images what I think comes over most is the effect the snow has on changing the feel of the environment, there's a beauty to the undisturbed snowfall that you don't find in places where alot of people are marching around giving it a real feel of a wildness far from human life. In reality it isn't but the point is you want to encourage other people to get out there into the forest's and woodland and enjoy the surroundings regardless of how the weather is.
