Summer Wetland.

One thing I like about Wetlands is that you can visit them throughout the year and each time you'll find the character of the place changing with the seasons. In Autumn/Winter it can be quiet a cold dull place but it'll be full of noise and life with migrating birds making themselves at home for the duration, Spring see many birds leaving but other's arriving to breed and then there's my favorite time Summer where the place seems full of colour as many of the plants bloom into life and the air can be full of insects seemingly making the most of there short life's.

Bull Rushes are one of the plants that I remember being fascinated by as a child because they just seem so unusual and different compared to an thing I'd seen before, many happy memories of siting listening to the wind blowing through them relaxing by the waters edge on a summers day. There also a great spot to find all kinds of insect life especially early in the morning as many chose to climb onto the leaves to catch the first warming rays of the day, particularly good for finding Dragonflies as they first emerge from the water.

Its no surprise the amount of plant life which makes it's home around our wetlands showing truly how diverse a habitat it is but one thing I can't explain or have ever found anyone else who could is why so much of it tends to be purples/pinks in colour? My guess has always been that it has to be most attractive to the surrounding insect life but whether that's right or not I don't know. What you also find this time of year in smaller more still areas is a vast amount of what I've always called duck/pond weed (don't think this is the right name for it so sorry if it isn't), this is what appears to be tiny green plants literally growing on the waters surface turning it into a mass of green. In peoples garden pond it can be a bit of a problem but here it just adds to the beauty of the place during the summer months.

I've mentioned how insect number grow around water right now and some can be truly beautiful in there own way like the Dragonfly above or very strange like the Water Boatman at the very top of these 3 images. Dragonflies make good subjects for any photographer but they are most defiantly one of the most difficult things to get a good shot of. You look at them they fly away, walk near them they fly away even thinking about photographing them and you guesses it they fly away. To be honest you end up looking a bit mad chasing the little SOAB around the place but when you do get luck and one decides it would like its photo taken the results are always very for filling.

Theses images just add to the growing collection I now have for this assignment and I think I'm beginning to have a set which really illustrates the diversity found here but I need to start thinking more about how I can use them with the idea of Juxtaposition in mind to really force home the importance of conserving these areas for the future.
