For this image of a leaf I really wanted to be able to show the structure so I positioned the leaf so the light was passing through from behind making the detail standout much more clearly then it would have normally.

I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed this little project, in part I think it's because it took my mind for a while off my written assignment which as I've said before isn't a part of the course I enjoy. Being able to get right down and up close and personal with some of the smaller wildlife in my garden was a real eye opener, I don't think I ever understood how structurally beautiful plants and insects particularly can be when you look closely at the details. I found lots of symmetry and patterns where I would never have thought to look before and although above is only a taster of the large number of shots I took you get the idea of what I'm trying to say. What I also found was that at this level texture becomes a more prominent factor and with good use of light as with any kind of photography you can really use it to make the images seem so much more alive. Think I might care on with this and maybe expand it a bit throughout the course, I'm thinking that some of the environments I'll be looking at in later assignments might provide some good photos which will be relevant to the overall theme of conservation.
